Take-Home Pay Calculator
Enter an annual salary and see your estimated take-home pay per year, per month, and per paycheck after 2026 federal tax, Social Security, Medicare, and state income tax withholding.
Gross pay vs take-home pay
Gross pay is your salary before anything is taken out. Take-home pay is what's left after:
- Pre-tax deductions — 401(k), HSA, health premiums. These also lower your taxable income.
- Federal income tax withholding — a prepayment toward your annual tax bill, set by your W-4.
- Social Security (6.2% to $184,500 in 2026) and Medicare (1.45%, +0.9% over $200,000).
- State income tax withholding where your state has it.

The annual, monthly, and per-paycheck view
This calculator shows all three because they answer different questions: annual for comparing an offer, monthly for budgeting rent and bills, and per-paycheck for what actually lands each payday. They're consistent — the per-paycheck figure times the number of paychecks equals the annual figure.
What this doesn't include
Local city taxes (e.g. New York City, Philadelphia), state disability and unemployment beyond noted cases, garnishments, and post-tax benefit elections. It also assumes a 2020-or-later Form W-4. See the disclaimer, and the Methodology & Sources page for the 2026 IRS, SSA, and state figures behind the estimate.
