Work Hours
Time Clock Calculator
Turn a list of clock-in and clock-out punches into total decimal hours for payroll. Add as many pairs as you have, deduct a lunch break, and get a payroll-ready total. 12- and 24-hour time both work.
How the time clock calculation works
For each punch pair: minutes = (clock out − clock in, +24h if overnight) − unpaid break.
The minutes for every pair are added, then converted to decimal hours by
dividing by 60. Payroll systems want the decimal form: 8 hours 27 minutes
is entered as 8.45, not 8.27.
Reading a punch record
Punch clocks print times like 07:58 and 16:31.
Enter them exactly as shown — you don't need to convert to AM/PM. If your
clock rounds punches to the nearest quarter hour, enter the rounded times.
